a method for recording incoming message signals on a telephone answering machine includes the step (110) of generating a first message to a caller and then the step (112) of monitoring for a touch-tone signal to be delivered by the caller as instructed by the message. if the touch-tone signal is detected, the next step (118) is to allow the caller to leave a message on the tape unit selected in accordance with the touch-tone signal. if the touch-tone signal is not detected, the next step (122) is to deliver a message instructing the caller on how to use the rotary dial telephone to select the appropriate tape unit.

un procédé d'enregistrement de signaux de messages entrant dans un répondeur téléphonique comprend l'étape (110) consistant à produire un premier message et ensuite l'étape (112) dans laquelle la ligne téléphonique entrante est contrôlée afin de détecter un signal entrant de clavier transmis par le correspondant appelant en réponse au premier message d'instructions. dans le cas où un signal de clavier est reçu du correspondant appelant, l'étape suivante (118) consiste à autoriser le correspondant appelant à laisser un message sur l'unité sélectionnée d'enregistrement choisie en fonction du clavier. dans le cas où un signal de clavier n'est pas reçu, l'étape suivante (122) consiste à fournir un message expliquant au correspondant appelant comment utiliser le téléphone à cadran rotatif pour choisir l'unité d'enregistrement appropriée.
